The private sector (business, industry and finance entities) are important actors in greenhouse gas emissions, and are therefore vital stakeholders to engage and influence in the development of policies and actions to protect the climate.
From April 10-11, representatives of the private sector met with climate experts at the New Institute in Hamburg to explore feasible and effective ways to engage the sector in critical reforms which are required in global climate governance.
The discussions underscored the severe economic risks posed by climate change, with recent projections from insurance industry experts estimating potential GDP losses of up to 50% in a couple of decades.
To tackle these challenges, the Mobilizing an Earth Governance Alliance (MEGA) was introduced as a platform designed to unite businesses, civil society, and governments through strategic coalitions, aiming to accelerate significant governance transformations.
In this video Ingmar Rentzhog, CEO of We Don't Have Time, interviews Maja Graf, Co-founder of MEGA, who convened the meeting.
