The Climate Governance Commission, through its work at the Planetary Governance Program has convened leading climate security experts to propose a rebalancing or transformation of climate security paradigms, including the consideration of adopting new security paradigms – firmly grounded in human security – based on unprecedented Earth system risks. Specific proposals include an enhancement of the UN Climate Security Mechanism and the integration of climate security issues across the spectrum of UN bodies.
