The Stimson Center proposes the establishment of a strong UN Peacebuilding Council to replace the current Peacebuilding Commission. This would be similar a similar process to the transformation of the Human Rights Commission into a Human Rights Council in 2006. The upgraded into a UN Peacebuilding Council would have enhanced powers and responsibilities, and be mandated to lead on policy development, coordination, resource mobilization, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding efforts not addressed directly by the Security Council.
